Anstatt uns eine Welt ohne Arbeit vorzustellen, die es nie geben wird - so die Ausgangsthese des Vortrags - sollten wir untersuchen, wie historische Kämpfe ein alternatives Verhältnis zu Arbeit und Befreiung postuliert haben; eine Verhältnis in dem die Kontrolle über den Arbeitsprozess zu mehr Kontrolle über weitere gesellschaftliche Prozesse führt und die Arbeit der Bereicherung der Menschen dient, statt einer abstrakten Produktivität. Darüber hinaus könnten diese Kämpfe auf das einzige Mittel zur Befreiung vom Kapitalismus hindeuten: die Bildung einer militanten kämpfenden Klasse, die das Kapital in all seinen Herrschaftsformen angreift, auch der technologischen.

Luddism*: Autonomy and Sabotage

Instead of imagining a world without labour – which according to the initial thesis of the lecture will probably never exist – we should examine how historical struggles have postulated an alternative relationship to labour and liberation, a relation in which control over the labour process leads to more control over wider social processes and labour serves human enrichment rather than abstract productivity. Moreover, these struggles may point to the only means of liberation from capitalism: the formation of a militant fighting class that attacks capital in all its forms of domination, including technological ones.
